Though AERC does not set respiration
parameter, vets will often check temperatures on horses that are
inverted......... ie, resp. rate higher than pulse, if temp in "normal" range
then often this inversion is just seen as horse effectively panting to
cool off. If temp 103 or higher, and can not get temp down within 30 minute pass
vet criteria time , horse may be pulled, or should I say will be pulled from
competition.( have seen horses come into holds at OD one year temps 103 to 107,
.."cooking" )
On this 'thread' plain alcohol added to
sponging water* can assist in evaporative effect of water, aid in cooling.
( though is very drying to coat and skin. and of course, make horse doesn't
drink it!! Personally perfer
ICE.) Stephanie
