Re: [RC] Cosmos Bucking - heidiWith close to 50 years riding experience, including the training of about 30 horses, I will say 'they all buck' at least once in their lifetime. Gee, I'm not quite to 45 years of riding experience, and am likely not quite up to 30 trained (although I've trained my share), and I honestly have to say that I've only had a few that ever bucked. Spook, shy, jump around, yes--but buck, no. And I've ridden a few of those through their lifetimes... Hubby did get a buck (of sorts) out of one of the geldings I'm riding now, but only when he rode him into a snow drift and he broke through to his belly and likely couldn't figure out any other way to get out of it. I can excuse a buck if a horse got stung by a bee or something, but other than that, if he bucks, either I'm doing something wrong (usually trying to do something he doesn't understand), or something hurts, or he isn't a horse I care to ride in the first place. The first situation would be my fault, the second may or may not be my fault (can't control stuff like bee stings), and the third is also my fault--there are plenty of horses out there from which to choose that AREN'T apt to buck if handled correctly... I kind of suspect that Cosmos might be in the middle category (something hurt--bee sting, whatever), but Carol is the one who was there, so I won't try to second-guess.
