Re: [RC] re: posting/balance from rc guest - Ed & Wendy Hauser"...I get off as I'm coming into camp, or sometimes a little ways out of camp, and lead my horse in. It signals to him that's it's time to mellow out and helps his HR drop faster..." When I condition new horses, and even some old campaigners, I always end the ride by walking, with the bit removed the last furlong or so. When I get to the "finish line" (an arbitrary spot I have picked out not at the trailer or with his buddies). I make the horse stand for a bit, give a mock P/R check, then I do the trot out. This whole routine teaches the horse that the ride ends with a vet exam, and a trot out. By the time he/she is at a ride, this is old hat and a signal to relax etc. Ed Ed & Wendy Hauser 2994 Mittower Road Victor, MT 59875 ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx 406.642.6490 ============================================================ If people would just think of the hoof as the foundation for the horse like a house foundation. when your horse plants his foot down in the ground and pushes forward if the foot isn't 100% balanced your chances of injury go up. ~ Paula Blair ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
