[RC] LD/Endurance - Linda Dewees

People are stuck on the topic of if a horse "should" do an LD with out being conditioned.  The point was LD's are not "endurance" because most healthy unconditioned horses can go 25 miles at a slow pace, but probably not 50.  It's a dividing line.

I was going to compare it to running marathon versus 10 miles, but the average person these days is so out of shape and overweight they could probably only jog/walk a mile at the most!   Anyway, to run a marathon you have to train a bit.  When you run 50 miles you don't neccesarily have to train more, but you have to manage your food, water, and elyte intake much more carefully during the run.  I suppose it's the same for the horses on a 100 mile.

Linda   (who has done one LD 3 years ago and loved it!!!  Can't wait to get back into it!  I don't mind that LD is not endurance and don't think it should be.  I like the system fine.)
