RE: [RC] truck water tanks - Rebecca RohwerI have a plastic 55 gallon drum/barrel that had two openings on the top. It was rigged up with fittings that allow a regular garden hose to be attached to one of the openings so that you can fill it and also dispense water from the hose. There is a shut off valve at the drum end or you could have a shut off of some kind at the end of the hose. For the top opening there is a second shut off valve that was installed. This is so that you can open the valve to let the air out as the tank fills. Also to open it when you are using the water so that the air pressure forces the flow of water. Even though it is round, it can be laid on it's side in the back of the truck. I usually block it up with a 2x4 to keep it from rolling. But with all that water in it it usually doesn't go anywhere as it is pretty heavy when full. I think the barrel was picked up at a farm supply type place. It wasn't a used barrel that had previously had toxic chemicals in it or anything. All the other fittings can be purchased at a plumbing store or maybe at a Home Depot/Lowes type store. OK, I am a girl and it was a guy that rigged this all up so if my explaination is sketchy I'm sorry. But it works well and carries a lot of water. Just one of many ideas that are out there I suppose. The trash bags in tubs are a pain and don't hold enough water. I want probably a 50 gal tank or so, no bigger. Anyone know of a good internet source? I think I'd like a black to keep down the algae and such. Any opinions out there?
