Re: [RC] Warner Springs, First Ride - advice - Lynne GlazerProbably because the taste of lytes can be enough to stop a horse from eating or drinking further in the check.Gesa had trouble with her lytes at vet 1 today because they were frozen! Talk about non-racing LDers--we had the biggest bunch of riders come into the finish check at 10 minutes till overtime. About 20 people. With one person scribing the finish and calling times, and only two of us doing PR, trying our best to get everyone through before they were OT. We made it. Barely. Who'd've thunk we needed more PR people that late into the ride? Hardest I've ever had to work in the shortest time. Then there was the time at this ride 3 years ago where there was only Dr. David Howe and myself to do all 130 riders at vet 1...we were scrambling pretty good then Lynne volunteering for a drink, now--should've stayed and done the hot pool, ears and all...do I mention that it was 34 at 7 am and 70 degrees by 11? Atomic clocks told the tale. On Jan 10, 2004, at 3:22 PM, Hedi wrote: Thanks for the very interesting text about LD riding. But could you ask Gesa Brinks why she elytes her horse just before leaving the stop? Is this better for the digestion during the trail? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
