Re: [RC] [RC] Susan's extra day at convention? - heidiI'd like to ask you a question about Ulcers. Is there a method of preventing them? Can an owner safely give their horses something similar to Gastro guard (the cheaper stuff), while competing, with the goal being ulcers become one less thing to worry about? Safety? Well, I doubt it would hurt the horse to give the meds. That said, though--it would violate the AERC "no drugs" policy. And if you want to take this a step further, if you are doing something that is causing ulcers, you likely need to re-evaluate your program anyway, as whatever is causing the ulcers likely also has ramifications with regard to other systems/functions as well. The best policy still is to not push the horse beyond his limits and then try to put a bandaid on whichever system "gives" first.
