[RC] Fw: Linited Distance BC - Dot WigginsIn addition to this I'd like to say I've never felt looked down on when doing LDs (I've ridden all distances) Don't know where folks get this idea. LDs have a different place in AERC now than "in the beginning" There are many folks that just have no way, for many reasons, to prepare and/or participate in the longer distances. LD is a very important part of AERC today. That said, I still feel "Limited Distance" for lack of a better name, and "Endurance", are two parts of the same sport, just as "International" is another part. Maybe different "Level" is a good term. What ever "level" you want to play on is up to each rider and horse on any given day. There is no lack of competition, challenge, or satisfaction at any level no matter your goals.. No one is belittled or exalted as long as each one does the best they can to complete with a happy horse. ( Vet Score, Time of top ten, and Weight) I have seen no more horses being "raced" for placings at these rides than at the few rides who do not give top ten placings. While I would not like to see LDs lumped with all other distances, I feel LDs should be managed much like the longer rides, with placings and regular BC judging, but in their own division. I prefer to keep the "Pulse Down to Finish" for the LD rides. Dot Wiggins AERC# 968 ============================================================ The whole ride experience can be very hard, and at times you question why you put yourself through such abuse. But then you remember all those moments when you pop up over a hill and are suddenly surrounded by the most stunning views. It's just you and your horse and for a moment time stops and you can hear the angels sing. Therein lies the addiction, at least for me. ~ Leslie Beyers ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
