Re: [RC] wolves and end of arguement here - heidiPS to my previous answer: It really got blown out of proportion by anti-environmentalists, Actually, the so-called "antienvironmentalists" in most cases are those who care enough about the environment to want to take care of it, instead of treating it like a sacred cow with which humans can have no interactions. I consider myself and the many others like me to be "real environmentalists"--in the true meaning of the word, rather than in the meaning that has come about due to politics--people who really try to use science and common sense to deal constructively with the environment, rather than appealing to the gut emotion and the "Bambi syndrome." FWIW, the folks like Jerry Fruth who work so hard to keep trails open for sports such as endurance fall into this category as well--endurance riders and other recreational users need to realize that they are on the same side in this fight with the cattlemen and the other folks who support multiple use instead of treating public land like some religious icon that cannot be touched or trod upon by human beings. and on a side note there is some rather significant proof of lynx and even a wolf sighting in southern washington (I hope it's true!). I have nothing against natural shifts of populations--that's how nature works. If the lynx are moving into new territory on their own, so be it. I wouldn't be surprised if you DO have wolf sightings in southern WA--it isn't that far (in terms of wolf migrations) from the population explosion that the exogenously-introduced wolves in Idaho are undergoing. Just think rabbits in Australia--where they finally had to introduce a virus to control them....
