I read an article in Equus about Flax Seed being used for Summer Itch or Sweet Itch. My 10 year old Arab would start rubbing his tail at the first sign of warm weather, I put him on Flax Seed and it has all most stopped it completely. I also used a topical itch ointment. And washing the Tail area at least once a week and rinsing every time you ride also helps.
The article said to start them off slowly and increase to 1 cup. I give him 1/2 cup am and 1/2 PM. Flax Seed has many good qualities not just working for Sweet Itch. It is good for skin, hair, and guts.
