[RC] automatic vs. stick - Libby & Quentin Llop DVM - Jonni Jewell

Considering that we ran out of fuel 3 times this trip, with an automatic
we wouldn't be home yet.<<<

I can not remember the last time I ran out of fuel, and have NEVER done so
when towing. We had worries during XP2001, that we would not be able to get
diesel in some of the more remote areas we were going to be in, but we had
no trouble finding it the whole route. I even got a yellow fuel can, and
filled it with diesel for an extra 5 gallons in case we could not find some
across the more remote areas of Nevada, but never did need to use it.

The very essence of our sport is doing the trail as quickly as practicable,
while keeping one's horse fit to continue. Taking the clock out of the
equation makes it another sport altogether. The challenge is how to keep
the sport what it is while honing our skills (both as riders and as those
in control roles) in detecting where "the edge" is for each horse so that
we don't cross it.
