Re: [RC] [RC] AERC Convention - Nancy MittsFirst let me say I used to work in a beer joint, so I'm not easily offended by much of anything. It is a question of what is appropriate for a given situation. Even the drunks don't shout dirty jokes (no matter how funny they may be) at the top of lungs, or over a PA system. People offended by such humor probably don't even hang out in bars. At a ride or at school they can simply walk away from the group saying things they don't want to hear. BUT this was a national award ceremony. Our chance to honor the best of our peers for the year. That type of humor is not an integral part of the sport and people who don't find it funny should not have to listen to it while waiting for their award. I have also worked as a substitute teacher, and no matter what kids say to each other, adults in the system are NOT allowed to join in. Can you imagine if a principal started each day with such a joke over the intercom? I also find it rather ironic that a group of "adults" who participate in a sport that allows 6-24 hours to complete can't be expected to sit still for 3 hours for their national awards without some other diversion. I would rather have had the time taken up by a few words form the award recipients.
