Re: [RC] Genetic diseases - Bette LamoreWhat would be best scenario, of course, Heidi, would be for every stallion owner to test their stallion and geld if he is positive. That would eliminate the bulk of the problem. OF course, that is in a perfect world... I know Nariadni tested positive for SCIDS and still was promoted heavily. I guess that is analogous to the Quarter horse breeders who have HYPP (did I get that right?) in the bloodlines and yet still breed the stallions. Economics unfortunately still determine morality for some folks. Sad but true.BTW, if you look up on FOAL and don't see a stallion listed as SCID tested and clear, it is not necessarily an indication of status. I tested both Halynov and Riverdance and both were clear and yet (Hal is gone so it is a mute point except for frozen semen I suppose) Riverdance has yet to be posted and yet I have brought their attention to it and re-submitted the reports which they got first. I believe they are behind so check with stallion owners for the status and never assume anything::-) Bette heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Yes, but who wants to take a chance that their SCID positive stallion
