[RC] re: reality, horses passing away - Teresa Van Hoveok- I can understand how this message can be construed as the bullet and method of disposal being the whole sore point. But I think I probably agree with Ms Golden on the subject of people who think they are doing horses a big favor by just keeping them alive, but dont provide decent farrier or other routine care & would ignore a horses illness till it got to the point where it COUNDN'T get to its feet (I'm guessing typo in orig post) before they put it down or had it put down. I sure hope I'm caring enough to get a vets diagnosis & either provide the care needed for my horses to recover or have them put down before they endure a lot of pain if/when they get sick. Though no quibble on my part with a humane bullet as a method for ending a horse's misery. my .02 cents on the subject Teresa Van Hove This is a rather sore subject for me, as there was a gal down the road from me is a "horse collector" --- 6 or 7 elderly horses that don't get proper routine medical treatment or care because she says she doesn't have the money. She took in one over the winter and when it became sick (well, I think it had EPM) she never bothered to call the vet. she never even told me (hell *I* would have paid the bill!!!). Instead of letting the horse go with dignity and respect, she put a bullet in its head when it could get to its feet, and then dragged it out of the barn and dumped it in a back field. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
