I think it works because of the smell, scares what ever is causing it away.(I think it is sulfur or pine tar from the smell and the yellowish color). LAD

The MTG helps with sweet itch too.  Oil (and MTG is
certainly oil based) keeps the midges off and also has
an effect on the worms under the skin (if present).
I, however, hate the smell of the MTG -- like bacon
grease or something. ;)
