Re: [RC] 80's 400 mile race - Heidi SmithIt was pointed out that the water requirement was beyond his planning let alone other considerations, the ride was abanded. This is an interesting point. Many people don't think about water requirements for LOTS of horses on dry trails where there is little or no water, but from a management perspective, water can be figured in TONS. (And has to be, when you consider the vehicles to haul it....) I used to put on a "dry" 100-miler (actually, one vet check had live water, thank goodness)--and it required between 13 and 15 TONS of water, distributed in camp, at checks, and at various points along the trail.... Just something to think about when folks want to become RM's....
