Several years ago I was talked into riding Wayne McMinn's horse, Gashir in a
100 miler at Wayne's ranch in PA.  I had never ridden him before.

My 12 year old son and his friend were teasing me that I never looked as
good as thier 'hero' Maggie (they liked her big truck, and thought she was
'cool'), so I was determined that I would try to be more lady-like on this
ride, so I took my lipstick along.  I touched myself up before every check
and tried like heck to stay clean like Maggie always appeared!  It became a
big issue through the course of the ride, and everyone had to commment on my
lipstick during checks.  To make a long ride a short story, I was 8th and
Maggie was 7th, she was about an hour ahead of me.

The next morning at the awards, Wayne announced my place and said that I had
never ridden the horse before and Maggie got up and said in that great
southern accent "And she did it with her lipstick on!!"

I will never be as pulled together and beautiful as Maggie, but it gives me
something to aspire to!

You're my hero, Maggie- hang in there girlfriend, and keep your lipstick
on!!
