Re: [RC] [RC] Truck questions........ - Kelli Kirchner

My husband and I just bought a 98 Dodge 3/4 Cummins diesel with only 60,000 miles. After looking around for awhile, I decided the Dodge diesel was the best truck I've seen. The Cummins diesel engine (which btw, is owned by Ford) is the best diesel engine out there imho. This engine has been around a really long time and I haven't heard anything bad about it. Also liked the Chevy Duramax diesel, but that is such a new engine, they don't quite have all the kinks worked out yet. Had some misgivings about Ford diesels due to people I know who have nothing but problems, not necessarily with the engine, but with everything else (tranny, rear differential, etc). I also liked the idea of going from a gas engine to a diesel engine. If you take care of diesel engines, they just seem to last a lot longer than gas engines. There was an article in our Sunday paper here about a month ago talking about a man who had a '95 Dodge Cummins diesel and he was ready to hit his 1,000,000 mile on it. That's right, one million! It still had the original engine and transmission in it.
We have been really happy with our choice so far. Now we are just waiting to see how it does it's first endurance season!

Subject: [RC] Truck questions........
Date: Fri, 7 Feb 2003 09:12:53 -0800 (PST)

I am getting close to being in the market for a new(er)
truck and am getting mixed reports on Dodge's in general.
Steering problems the dealers/manuf. won't admit or fix.
Windows leaking and causing rust in floorboards. I found a
1998 Dodge V10 with 56K miles on it, loaded, tow package
for $16K. I sounds like a good deal, but I hear better
things about the 1997 and newer diesels. How about Tranny
problems? Then I looked at Fords and didn't see much in the
way of significant problems, some brake stuff, but Fords
cost alot more it seems. If this is too redundant, please
post privately!
