Re: [RC] RE- senior horse feed - Rae CallawayI , also, have a near toothless gelding. My Old Man, Jerry, is 37 this year. Purina Sr doesn't do a thing for him and he starts to lose weight drastically. What works with him is Nutrena Sr. Not all senior feeds are created equal. Do some research and find out what works best with your horse. --- Rae --- tallcarabians@xxxxxxxxxxxxx --- Tall C Arabians - SE Texas [Original Message] From: Heidi Smith <heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <Ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <roger@xxxxxxxxxxx> Date: 2/5/2003 11:34:00 PM Subject: Re: [RC] RE- senior horse feedI have tried almost all the Senior Feeds I could find in East TN. I have a 31 yr old with TWO teeth, so he gets mush BP chop hay and we decided on Purina EQUNIE SENIOR. While I do not really care for Purina - another issue - this stuff really does appear to work well with himOf all the senior feeds I've checked out, Purina's Equine Senior sure seems to be the most palatable. It is the only "big name" product that I buy as well, and I likewise have two nearly toothless horses doing well on a ration similar to what you describe--our version is beet pulp, alfalfa pellets, and Equine Senior, briefly soaked into a palatable mush (not soup). Both are fat, sassy, and healthy. Some of our others are also on Senior in addition to their hay--although they still have sufficient dentition to do ok on the hay, the Senior just seems to help out. (Having 7 stallions over the age of 21 here, as well as some older mares, geriatric nutrition is something that interests us a great deal....)
