RE: [RC] treatments in AERC rides--> now idaho - Bob MorrisHey Tiffany: This is Idaho! Not SoCal. Ask john about the attendees at the Oreana Pot Luck Supper. Top of the bunch in that region and the best of folks. Of course that was here in Idaho not Coeur d'Alene where all the SOCal transplants are. Yes, we have places to ride. Out there where John and Steph live I would say there is a few hundred square miles to ride in. Day or night your choice. And you do not have to stay on the trail if you do not want to. Winters are average, here where I live at 3k feet in elevation we do not get much snow. 15 miles away at 7k feet there is around three feet now. Bugs? No worse than any other place. Not as bad as most. A few rattle worms and a cat or so but nothing scary. Some dangerous humans but they get sent to Coeur d'Alene. Some good vets so if you get hurt they can patch you up. Some nice land but it is getting expensive but not like where you are. Job hunting? You do not need a license for that type of hunting but you do need one for elk or deer. You can hunt for a job all you want. Good hunting. One thing we do ask is that if you come you leave CA behind. Please do not Californicate our area. Speaking of which, I'm a lifelong Southern Californian. We are pretty seriously toying with the idea of relocating to Coeur d'Alene. We want to raise our kids somewhere where they can be safer, and have room and open spaces to play on, as kids should, along with the horses. Can you Idahoans tell me what it is like up there in terms of trails, rides, places to buy with a bit of acreage and relative costs? Do you love it up there? Will the weather just kill me after living here my whole life? How severe are the winters, and can you ride all year? Bugs? I would really appreciate it. Is there some culture and restaurants and a little nightlife and shopping? From what I have seen, I would die to live somewhere that gorgeous, but want to make sure it isn't so alien that I can't adjust. I'm used to being able to ride year round, even at night-that's a big plus for training and keeping fit. It is just so expensive and crowded here. Slowly trails get lost to suburbia, though I live in a ideal horse town for around these parts. Thanks a bunch-it will be nice to hear from real horse people who live around there instead of just brochures. I am a Nuclear Medicine tech BTW, I assume job hunting should go smoothly and that you have some advanced imaging centers and hospitals up there.
