Re: [RC] loose stifles - Stephanie E CaldwellAmy, My horse was diagnosed with stifle problems in 2001. My vet recommended surgery, and I regret now not doing the surgery. Initially I was recommended to long line Star up and down hills for two weeks at walk and trot, then add lunge work at walk and trot for two weeks, then start riding. She's been off and on lame for most of the time I owned her, except last year where I rode every single day and trotted up and down hills every day. I'm just bringing her back from a shoulder injury and 6 months off this month, so we're battling front and rear weekness and lameness problems. She is regularly on cortiflex and had about a weeks worth of bute. When I rehab Star I usually go for a months worth of Buteless just to make things easier for us. Only problem with BL is that it made Star HR hang at 72 for about 15 minutes after each ride, so if she's on it we just do short rides. And, I had to watch for inflamation closer because the BL masks it.
