RE: [RC] [RC] Just Guessing - Laurie Durgin

Good post. I have been folowing this, chewing over it and trying to glean useful bits. I am neither opposed to or pro new rules.Lots of discussion about what would and wouldn't work and why. I have learned alot about 'guidelines' for the welfare of my horses.Things I'd like to know, but are hard to discover. Like: a fluctuating heart rate is more of a sign of trouble than if it drops in 10 min. LIke not eating or drinking well seems to be more important than MAYBE a CRI.That they can look great be Reeeeeal downright PERKY and have a disaster coming. That its the "subtle " things that seem to indicate trouble. That maybe you need to tune everything out, but the horse periodically and really notice their 'subtle signs". That just becasue an 'authority", be it a "top rider" or a vet tells you they are ok, it's the horse that you need to listen to above them.
And take everything anybody says with a grain of salt.
Like conditioning. Lots of conflict there. At a ride I volunteered for, a junior asked a rider "how do you conditin your horse?" The rider said , "I don't , I conditon at the rides".I wondered what the junior made of that commet,a n whatever that rider meant or did , or how her horse did or how long she did this, or was she ignorant,or is this really ok ?I had no idea who the rider was, how many rides she did or anything else. . . But in light of what I have read and seen it sure made me wonder. . .
That it maybe more of an ART, than a Science. . .

One should be aware of the risks, one should really know their horse and listen to them.ONe should know ones self and ones weakness. And the elusive EDGE is always there and it's boundaries are vague. . . Laurie/Rascal/Honey/ Scout
