[RC] Competitive Trail Riding horses treated? - rides2farWith all the talk of metabolic crashes, and the need for education for > newbie's, (and not-so-new racers) perhaps it is time to consider the educational benefits of Competitive Trail Riding. I'm curious. Does NATRC keep records on horses treated and any that die (even after returnign home)? I noticed quite a few horses doing the NATRC rides that I rode drag for that weren't particularly....born to do distance. I know some breed organizations give medallions for halter, performance, and racing/or distance. I could have this all wrong, I was about 17 when studying it, but I recall when I rode Apps that some would get a bronze halter medallion, then their silver "performance" medallion was earned in western pleasure dragging their rear toes & their nose along at a shuffle. Then they had the option of the race track or a distance event to earn their gold. This meant that some extremely over-muscled horses with OO feet were sent out to do CT. The day I did pulses the horse that looked so rough and worried looked like a halter QH. (feed'em and lead'em) poster child. Since the open NATRC pace is not that slow, and many of our horses who are having problems are not going that fast...surely you all have had troubles too. Any stats?
