Re: [RC] New Rider Proposals - Karen WilliamsI know I don't know anything, but I was wondering if there are any statistics on horse deaths over, say, the last 10 years or so, that indicate the level of experience of the rider. Has it been determined that new riders are responsible for most of the horse deaths and therefore have to be monitored before being unleashed on the open trail? Just what is the definition of a new rider? I'll admit to being new to endurance, having ridden my first LD ride a few months ago .. but I've have owned, ridden and trained my own horses for over 40 years. I don't think I'd like being lumped in a "new rider" category and treated like I don't know anything. I probably look like an idiot at an endurance ride because I haven't figured out where to put my card, or equipment or where to check in or check out, but I do have enough sense to know when my horse is off which is exactly what happened at my first ride and pull him at the first vet check (even though he passed). If I wanted a lot of rules, I'd ride NATRC Karen Williams Spotsylvania, VA =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
