Re: [RC] New Riders - proposals - correction - Kristene SmutsI think the ideal is okay, but this implementation would be a nightmare for ride managers. How about for the first so many rides - they are only eligible for completion - no placing. That would also probably drive ride managers up the wall.>> Well, our system does exactly that. Fortunately we have lots (hopefully) volunteers who deal with the admin at a ride. On the ride times ....... a 50 mile (80 km) ride has 3 legs and the rider can nominate if he wants to ride the first (30 km), first and second (60 km) or the full ride. The longest distance horses jump off first in groups of 10 (not the mass start you guys are used to). Then the middle distance, then the shortest distance. That gives the 80km horses the chance to get the most part of the course out the way before the bulk of the horses jump off. The faster horses even jump off on their second leg with the starters of the 30km leg! The max times on each ride is calculated as the total distance done at just less than 10 kph. So even if you walk most of the way, you'll still come in in the maximum time. It IS a pain to administrate, but you can always take a looooong holiday and come see how we do it ;-)) Kristene South Africa =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
