[RC] pr recovery proposal - terreJohn Teeter said:"It would be easy to apply the intime.to.pulsetime evaluation to PanAm, as the data is available for all horses, to see what effect applying the proposed new pulse criteria zones might have been. I don't recall seeing any >15min pulse times, but there may have been a few. More directly, testing the proposed change against existing data (from swanton, from PanAm, from biltmore and any other rides for which the intime.to.pulsetime data is available) should be done as part of the process of reviewing the suitability of the change. It would be interesting to see if it would have effected anything." and of, course I think he is right--where we have data available from past rides we should take a look at it. However, we need to consider it with a bit of caution; since the '15 minute' clause did not apply then, you cannot guarantee that riders behaved the way they would have had it been in effect. What I mean is, I know that at the PAC (and some other FEI rides) later in the ride people will often feed their horses, etc, before going to P/R. This is because FEI makes you go straight from P/R to vet, and if the rider has any concerns re gut sounds, they may want to do some TLC before presenting. Saddles are always pulled before PR, and that will influence the number too. I still think we will see very, very few horses that take longer than 15", even given these conditions. terre =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
