Those 20,000 starts were not unique horses. Those 20,000 starts represent
between 4 and 5 thousand different horses.
I highly doubt that racing starts all represent
unique horses, either. Nor do show ring entries. In almost every
equine sport you encounter, there will be horses that start multiple events in a
given year. Again, this is not to say we needn't look into our own
situation--certainly we do. But if you are going to "peel the layer off of
the onion" you need to do it for the other sports as well, Truman.
