....serious, experienced horse people KNOW the lunacy of this proposed program.
Sorry, Randy, this might be (ostensibly) a "quid pro quo" for the BLM and AERC, but it's just not a good idea.
The running dialogue on RC and the "other" list certainly isn't indicative that the AERC is overrrun with "serious, experienced horse people". I just don't buy it. I know what I've seen over the years...YES, an awful lot of well-intended horse folks, serious about their horses and the awesome responsibility that accompanies owning and campaigning, but THEN, there's the "other" side of that coin. I'd like to see the AERC respond compassionately enough to jump up and really do something to modify how races/rides are conducted and governed in order to ensure the welfare of our own horses..it is a carriage being towed by horses just this side of a runaway. I believe that. Gussying it up with neat clothes, FEI participation, empirical studies, etc., just isn't going to alter the cold hard truth that horses are paying the price for the inexperienced nature of our membership, the discompassionate eyes of folks with influence and true experience, and the "head-in-the-sand" mentality of so many folks bent on excelling at SOMETHING before they die....irrespective of what it might take to get there.
No, let's clean up our own pens before we venture out into the bright lights of the BLM and Mustangs/Feral Horses/etc.
