Seems to me they're the ones doing all the work, man what tough horse's. AERC does the Pioneer Awards which are for same horse/same rider. Steph's Tough Sucker awards are for same rider, any horse. You are right the horses are pretty tough (especially that percheron/arab cross!!) and Regina will get Pioneer points for the 3 and 5 day rides. But I'd have to differ that the horses do ALL the work. It's a team affair me thinks with mental as well as physical stresses on both members. Regina and Gypsy did 510 miles of trail in the Owhyee desert over an 8 week period. Tom and Frank and Stormy did the same. Linda Karius and Anam Cara and Mary Forrester and Bullwinkle and Copper Breeze did 410 miles (and Mary drove all the way back over here yesterday to volunteer doing P&R all day!!). Linda Black and Rafzairi and Bosu Darley did 500 (having a pull with 10 miles left on one day. All of these guys, and the 6 not quite tough suckers (and the 1 suck tougher Ron Sproat!!) all set out their goals and met them. Both riders and mounts are deserving of glory (and all they REALLY get is the satisfaction of having seen the country on the back of a good horse)!! And, as was pointed out earlier, the mounts likely only care about another day of treats and training and trails:) There are other goals (like the XP overall gold medal, doing the OD100, VC100, Tevis, and Bighorn in one year, etc.!!) which may be sought after by the dedicated endurance crazy!! good luck to all as they go after them with gusto!! (and to each their own:) johnt (p.s. just a footnote - has ANYONE every seen Dave Rabe submit to the cold?? Last night, below 20df, and he dons a light long sleeved t-shirt for warmth - still the shorts and still not shivering - and he rides till past midnight!!- I REALLY don't know how he can do it....!!) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
