I finally after 2 years of trying made it to a ride
with my mare and I both. She's been lame and just went for the fun of it, I went
as a volunteer, but we both had a great time! I went with my riding buddy and
her 4 year old Egyptian Arab, I've not camped in at least 15 years, so the
entire weekend was an experience. I decided to
take Star just for the fun for both of us, so that added some more stress
making sure I had everything.
We left home Friday at lunch; my Star loaded
easily, though she was a little upset over wearing her shipping boots. LOL Got
to the ride site around 4pm, it was just around 70 miles, really easy drive. Got
the horses unloaded and corrals set up, Star seemed relaxed and Melisa's gelding
looked like he was having a good time. I went up to vet him through with her, he
looked great and handled everything in stride.
I was scribing for the vet the next day, and I
learned so much from the vets. I scribed for Otis Schmidt most of the day, spent
a little time with Kerry Ridgeway and Matt Frazier. It was just incredible being
there and seeing how things worked. The horses looked great for the most part,
had several lameness pulls, one metabolic for a cramp.
I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone.
Lucy and Trish did a great job with organization, volunteer food was wonderful,
everything worked well from my point of view!
