Re: [RC] Ruffled Feathers - Sisu West RanchDuring the years we managed Sisu-Sisu we did not give a BC to LD. The reason was that to count you had to use the AERC system. That system includes heavy weight for time and weight of rider. On a 25 mile ride, the time requirement gives to much advantage to the "fast" horses. I would like to see the AERC recognize a system (or any system of the ride manager's choice ) that considered only horse condition at the end of the ride allowing evaluation of all horses completing the ride in the max time allowed. Parameters to be considered: 1. P/R exactly 10 minutes after reaching final pulse criteria. 2. CRI exactly 10 minutes after reaching final pulse criteria. 3. Gait at same time, including circles. 4. Galls and tack 5. Soreness on palpation of back and shoulders. 6. Vet's opinion of impulsion and tired ness. As a start I would give equal weight to each part of the evaluation. What do ridecampers think of this? Note that by allowing all horses to compete for BC (which now may be made manditory) you remove some of the incentive to race. Note I have eliminated rider weight also. While some heavyweights may complain, and weight is definately a factor, It is hard to quantify. If weight compensation is desired, we could divide the ride into the AERC weight classifications.
