Re: [RC] LD vs 50--Let's ruffle some feathers - TypefI totally agree with Maryben ... in the Western region I have found no difference in treatment in either distance from ride management or riders. Everyone seems totally compatible and just plain happy to be there. I was one of the OT riders at Quicksilver and even though I didn't get my "miles," that blanket hand-made by Trilby Pederson is something I will always treasure. I've only been on 5 LDs in the past two years, but have been treated with open arms by everyone. The only place I've felt embarrassed that I was starting out on LDs instead of 50's was right here on RideCamp when I first joined. So far, this is the only place where I've seen any difference between the two distances. I have not witnessed this so called second class treatment....Our ride this weekend had about 35 LD riders, only 10 of whom finished in time. One was picked up by the RM about 4 miles from the finish because she was very sick. Every single one of the OT riders got their finishing award, which was the same award the 50 milers got, a hand made polarfleece blanket. As far as BC goes, we choose not to give an AERC BC award. We give a horse excellence award which is available to all of the finishers. The rules do not require the BC award and we are free to choose not to give it.............mb =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
