[RC] OT - Diarrhea in Older Horse - Tamara TaylorHello list, A friend of mine is having some trouble and I agreed to ask around to see if I could find any ideas or suggestions to help her older horse out. He is a 27 year old Quarter horse gelding, about 1300 lb. He cribs and has no front teeth left as a result of this. He is hard to keep weight on and he is built like a running QH. He has been having very watery stools for the last few weeks. He had a similiar problem last year when they switched his diet but it cleared up when they put him back on his regular food. This time he seems to have a lot of gas (and grumbly stomach sounds) and liquid diarrhea but other times his stool is more formed. Her vet put him on 13 tablets of Novo-Trimel 960mg/day (1 Tablet/100 lbs) and it hasn't made much of a difference yet. He was started on it on Thursday. Right now all his diet consist of is dry hay and a few cubes after he takes his medicine. Floating his teeth and deworming have been looked into. My friend is at her wits end and would really appreciate any suggestions for things to try or tests to look into. Any suggestions for diet to help keep his weight on would be muchly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance, Tamara Taylor Saskatoon, SK =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
