RE: [RC] New topic/manes - Linda CowlesDoes anyone have a solution for growing a nice mane? Something else that works - it's an old show-barn secret - is to use Vetrolyn Liniment (not the wash) in a 3:1 waters: liniment dilution and drench the root of the mane and tail daily for 3 days then every 3 days. I use an old electrolyte syringe as my "drench gun", and it sure stops the itching! Cleans the mane/tail up really well, too. I tried it on myself for a few days because I wanted to know what would happen (my horses are sensitive) and my hair looked great for 3 days in a row... didn't dry it or make it look stringy. Feels good, too. Supposedly the wintergreen stimulates growth and kills the fungus and mites, and Vetrolyn has a little green soap in it, so a simple rinse clears it out leaving a very clean mane and tail. It stops the rubbing for my gang immediately. I never persisted for more than a week, so can't validate the "encourages growth" claims, but my horses really enjoy. They line up, and even tolerate having their forelocks drenched - carefully! Don't want to get it in the eyes. Linda Cowles Horse 'N Hound New, Used & Consigned Tack & Stable Supplies 9155 N.
