We've never noticed any ill effects from this solution. Kaboot's mane it thick & to his shoulder, his forelock it thick and very long. It was like that when I bought him at almost 5 years of age. So I was surprised when his former owner told me that when he was young he kept it all rubbed off to the skin and he didn't think he'd ever have a mane. He said somebody recommended that he "Put the stuff on it that you put on rose bushes" (your guess is as good as mine). He said after that it grew right in.
