[RC] [RC] shoeing and scientific data - Karen StandeferThe information on The Horse's Hoof (Strasser's theories and methods) is mainly derrived from junk science that was debunked centuries ago when it was submitted for peer review. Although much of it comes from really old (1800's) farrier text as well. There is really good and ongoing current research being done by Hilary Clayton, Barbara Page, Robert Bowker, Gene Ovnicek, Chris Pollit, Ric Redden, Gayle Trotter, David Hood and many others. Dr. Bowker is presenting an awesome paper at the AAEP this fall in New Orleans. I had already heard the presentation and it is really fantastic research. I would encourage anyone interested in hoof stuff to go. Next year there should be some really great stuff come from Barbara Page, Gene Ovnicek and Bowker. They've gone back out to the field to study feral horse hooves again. Karen Referenced Post: Okay, So you guys want to know if there is any scientific data about shoeing. If you are really interested, and not just interesested in slamming someone, go to http://www.thehorseshoof.com/ The site is a wealth of information, sposored by a German Vetrenarian with YEARS of scientific experience and data about why shoes deform horse's feet, how this practice is unavaoidable with ANY shoeing, and why shoes are not necessary -- especially for endurance riders. lori __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
