Re: [RC] costs: Boarding & shoeing - Susan Garlinghouse2 are 20 yrs each), the owner tells me his bills are going >up& he's thinking of raising the board! (venting here). Anyhow, What are some of the going rates? Wendy Mancini in central NJ coast Obviously, a long ways from NJ, but I pay $125 a month for my four horses and a mule in a ten acre pasture with only one other horse in there. I've been paying that for several years now and while the board hasn't exactly gone up, there was a general agreement last winter that I would supply some of the hay, especially since I'm fairly picky about the feed that goes in front of my horses (imagine that). In return, no other horses go in and out of "my" horses pasture, they have hay in front of them 24/7, they feed whatever supplements I want when and how I want it (I supply the supplements), the water tank is kept heated in winter and kept CLEAN and I expect someone to take a good look at my crowd at least once a day for ADR. I could get cheaper pasture board in this area, but it's worked out okay for me. The owner is also my shoer and we have an unspoken agreement that if I don't try to be a shoer, he won't try to be a vet, and so we don't second-guess each other too often. <g> JME.
