Re: [RC] re: Endpoint of an endurance ride - Sisu West RanchPerhaps the real thing needed here is to add a suplemental rule that at some particular time (say one hour or two hours) after finishing the horse must be represented for evaluation of metabolic stability etc. I do think that like the exit CRI, an examination 1 hour after crossing the line tells more about the "fitness to continue" and general metabolic health than one as soon as the pulse is down. For example suppose Dobbin has marginal gut sounds 5 minutes after crossing the line with a pulse of 60, and his gait is OK. He goes back to the trailer and doesn't eat and is in trouble an hour later, or he goes back to his trailer eats drinks and generally relaxes. An hour later his gut sounds are much improved etc. My gut feeling is that horses should be examined (or reexamined) an hour after crossing the line. Metabolic stability at this time is an important criteria for their health.
