Re: [RC] [Guest] Adios/Metabolic failures@ PAC - sharp pennyReally...is there any other sport that does this?? Am I just being super sheltered? Endurance is the only sport I can think of that requires continual vet monitoring during the event and approves of vet intervention to help a horse. Everyone who shows can tell you a horror stories of practices associated with that disipline that harm the horse. Years ago in the western pleasure horse world people were found bleeding horses to make them tired and go slower, What about tail blocks? ( I personally know of several vets that would do them "behind closed doors") Tying horses up for days on end with no access to feed or water? Breaking a tail to reset it? I've heard of Arabs and Saddlebreds that have been cosmetically altered. Soaring the big lick TWH's? The list is endless...you say not at trail rides...Ive seen horrendous abuses of horses there as well albet mostly out of ignorance. Don't kid yourself, horses have died in other sports as well. Endurance is on of the few sports that is trying to prevent future deaths through research and edcuation. Most other venues just try to sweep all the ugliness under the proverbial rug.
