I have argued against this rule at UMECRA conventions because it raises the spector of sick horses being thrown into trailers so that they would not have their completions removed. To defend the rule, I have not seen this happen at UMECRA rides. If there is a feeling that a significant number of horses develop metabolic problems a few hours after completion, there could be another metabolic exam scheduled at a particular time post ride. I would not be opposed to it being the next morning. This might also force some people to stay in camp longer, thus allowing more recovery before trailering. Ed PS. I am aware that some (a minority) horses live so close to particular ride that it is better to take them home immediately...
