I empathize with this SO much.  I ride with a very stoic friend and she looks 
at me like I'm such a wuss when I freak about spiders.  I've gotten much 
better due to wanting to live up to her expectations.  Of course, I have to 
make a huge deal about how brave I was.  "Did you see me?  Did you see me?  I 
didn't scream or flail or fall off the horse that time!"  Vicki's going, 
"Very nice.  That time, you just ripped your helmet and shirt off while 
whimpering.  Now, put your clothes back on and let's trot."
