Re: [RC] [RC] Jockeys (was Riding Cavalry) - Heidi SmithBy "designated crew" I meant that one extra person who sets out the feedstuff, gets the e'lyte syringes ready, untacks and sponges (or blankets, depending on the weather) the horse while the rider dashes for the potty or a clothes change (and watches all inflows and outgoes to report to the rider), and maybe trots out the horse so the rider can watch with the vet. Deanna, there are indeed folks who do 100's without even that "one designated person." They send their crew bags and 6-pack coolers out to vet checks with the vehicle that most ride managers dedicate to hauling "rider stuff" and when they get to the check, they go through the pile and find their own stuff, do their own crewing, and I've even seen horses next to portapotties with the reins going in the door. I've done it a few times myself, although I'd sure rather have someone else to help a bit as the day wears on.
