: [RC] 100 Mile Mentors Club - rides2far.....the horses have to be fairly evenly matched.... That's one reason I haven't spoken up to mentor. I'm still doing well to get *myself* through a 100. When someone asks me, even before a 50 if they can ride with me I tell them they're welcome to ride with me if our horses choose to travel with each other. Same goes for a 100. One thing about a 100 that's different (for those considering one) is that everyone *really* wants everyone else to make it, because you *really* want as many people as possible out there to ride with after dark. It's one distance where people *will* wait on you before leaving a vet check because you don't want to be stuck out there alone. That said, I was mentored through my first 100 by Lynda Corry and if she hadn't I never would have realized how important it was to get as far as possible before dark. Forget 24 hrs...worry about what part of the trail you need behind you before dark.
