Re: [RC] Isabel/Biltmore Ride - Stephanie E Caldwell
I'm sure those in more costal areas are preparing
for the brunt of Isabel, as I said earlier if you need a stall to come to I've
got at least 6 usable, my barn leaks at the foundation, but it's got a good
roof! LOL I love storms, they're beautiful and powerful. We've had some
humdinger of storms this year, too. Several with 60+ MPH winds, hail, one
tornado went through my little town.
Both of our hail storms I was out in; one with a
cousin from LA who had never seen a storm. We were on interstate, got bad enough
that the big rigs were pulled off. My little SUV doesn't handle wind real well
and we were sliding all over the road, hydroplaning, gusts of wind up to 70 mph.
But the beauty and power of a storm like that leaves you in awe of what nature
can do.
The other hail and tornado storm I was at
home, but heard the tornado watch and that it was headed for where my barn was.
That storm took a more northerly turn and I only got the edges; a tree limb
about 10" across and 30' long, looked like half a pine tree, came hurtling down
and crashed into the top/back of my SUV. It was hailing by the time I got to the
barn, one call and Star was at the gate waiting on me. Ran her into the barn
with a chunk of mane and lead rope rapped around her neck. She beat me to her
stall. LOL
Hope those out in the path of this storm are
prepared for it. Email me privately if you need a stall, I'm ten minutes off of
I-85 in Gastonia, NC. I'm about 7 hours from Wilmington, and five hours from the
NC/VA line on I-85.
BTW, has anyone heard from Mary Kornwolf. I know
she lives just east of Richmond, wondering if her and Shiloh were okay. Been
trying to get intouch, but her machine's always on. If anyone has contact with
her, please ask her to call or email me.
Just picked up a warning for the mountain area
off of NOAA.gov thought some of y'all might be interested in.
