Re: [RC] Question on heart rates- a PS - Heidi SmithI guess I should give you more info. Here is what I found: Her first rate before exercise was 34. After lunging I got her rate up to 112--- she has been a pasture potato and very out of shape. then a few minutes after we stopped she got down to 88; at 5 minutes she was 72; at 10 minutes she was 52; at 15 minutes she was 44 and stayed there at 20 minutes. At 25 minutes she was at 40. How long did you lunge her? I expect those sorts of numbers first few times out under saddle with unconditioned horses going 4-5 miles trotting. Our greenies usually come in from early work under saddle with HRs in the 70s as soon as we get off, which drop within just a few minutes into the 50s. We've got one right now that started right off dropping into the 40s by the time we could get a stethoscope on him when we get off, even his first few rides. He's doing the same thing on 50s now--he is at 48 or 44 as soon as Paul gets off and finds a PR person.
