[RC] Shoeing School - Roger RittenhouseSo - here I am getting a bit fed up with shoeing issues - shoer? maybe and no rtn calls.. I have been doing the trimming thing for the past few months . reading the shoe manual .. and NO not the barefoot thing.. I think I am getting a better eye for it. HOWEVER I have NOT had the nerve to drive that first nail. I want to nail on the equiflex shoes - have them all ready to do-- but concerned I will quick my horse.. going to try this on my older mare.. Jaye Perry shoes Omni.. I would NOT try to do him I dont have an anvil yet so cannot really do the steel shoes but these Equiflex shoes and other plastic shoes are easy to fit. I have her foot 'balanced ' as best as I can tell- I measure toe length, check med-lat balance with a ruler all seems OK.. now just to hit that first nail?? So the question is - has any riders gone to one of these DIY horse schooling schools? There is one in GA about 1.5 hr drive for me - 2- 5 day weeks.. designed for the rider to learn how to DIY on a horse with no real issues.. Cost about $2k plus tools.. School is Casey and Son... If I did this I would not have to deal with lost shoes, and other problems..such as called 2 shoers asked if they wanted my business and they do not rtn the calls.. guess they have too much work? I watch and learn have read more then I can remember.. I just want to shoe a few here to trail ride. the ones I use for endurance, well I will just haul to Ga and see Jaye..P Just getting frustrated about this thing.. How many riders do their own? with or without formal training.
