Re: [RC] Just Use Oil - Lydia CassillyI can second the worth of six month float by a trained DVM/Equine Dentist. It's worth the money to get ALL teeth done and a full inspection. My vets in Florida the first few years did the usual float. Then I met Bev Scott when I bought my dream horse. She absolutely had a dentist come in every six months for all her race stock and gave me the name and number of the man she uses. When I took a look inside the mouth of a horse my vet had done not so long before I was surprised (polite understatement) at the sharp points and ridging at the very back of it's bite. Unless you sedate and use a full speculum, you ain't getting what you pay for, in my opinion. You also may miss cheek ulceration caused by sharp edges. I also use Fastrack and nuke my horses spring and fall with the five-day, double dose course of Fenbendazole. Nutrena's new pelleted fat supplement may be great stuff, but now that I've moved to Nowhere, Arkansas--availibility is a big issue. Plus $25 per bag. Moderation with fat and beet pulp combined with twice yearly nuking helped sustain weight on my worst keeper. Good Luck!
