After a while you don't even think about "how to ride in the heat/humdity" <shrug> is there even any other way to ride? :) I did the GERA ride several years ago and after I did 50 miles (slowly) found out it got up to 104 that day (this is in GA so it's a wet heat <g>). I think the only treatment that day was for an injury on the trail - no other problems. So it's possible to ride in summer southern conditions and survive, just pay attention to what your horse (and your body) is telling you.
