[RC] endurance truck - not loved-but gets us there - Teresa Van Hove93 Dodge 250 dodge diesel (3/4 ton) stick shift. 12-14 mpg (depends mainly on cross wind or not) pulling 14 ft long 6'9" high(interior) bumper hitch steel trailer +pop-up camper. 112,000 miles (12,000 on rebuilt tranny -turned trip home from vacation into its own adventure, did receive tremendous hospitality from the independent mechanic in southern Utah) Kristene - you may think you lust for the power we can get; but we cant buy any tow vehicle here that would come anywheres close to sipping only 6.x liters to go 100 km. 20 mpg is considered darn good for a tow vehicle here, --lets see that translates to just over 3 gals per 100 km *3.78 liters -that would be 11.3 liters/100km. You do the math for all these 12-14 mpg vehicles. my truck is OK. I certainly dont love it; but I'd have to completely clean it out to sell it; plus there is the factor that the truck's job is to to get me to rides, and be lived in while there. Feels like it would be a waste to buy a brand new truck and or camper LQ trailer to take the kind of abuse any one of mine will get. The only 'luxury' the truck gets is regular oil change/servicing. Horse rescuing truck story - Pulled a major boner once, having made a wrong turn on way to ride tried to just turn around in meadow (meadows at home were dry, no rain for weeks --boy that does not mean anything when you are in the next state!) Stuck the truck but good, and it was getting dark so Grey and I had to just camp there overnight and the next morning I saddled him up and road him a few miles back to the nearest ph to call a tow truck to winch the truck 'n trailer out of the mud. The RM let me pull ribbons when I finally got there and gave me a coffee mug for volunteering.
