You are not going to trim the inserts but place them along the sides of the
Old Macs where here feet are not round enough yet. Take the time to place
them right and just leave them there until her feet don't need them anymore.

sandy,
my mare has only been barefoot since december. prior to that she had narrow
contracted mule-like feet. since december her feet have expanded greatly and
gained an entirely new shape. however, when i measured her feet for the
boots it turned out that her length is 5 inches (size 6) and her width is 4
1/2 inches (size 1). so the recommendation came back that i use the inserts
b/c of this difference between the width and length size.
so when i do get the boots and the inserts i shouldn't just try to jam them
in but first check for space and then trim the inserts if necessary? i was
really hoping to avoid the inserts altogether. hoping someone would tell me
that's not necessary but i guess if the boots will twist otherwise then i
better get them...
thanks!

I use and sell Old Macs. The inserts are not bad to deal with. They
Velcro
over the side of the boot to take up the space if your horses foot is not
round. It is very important to fill the space in the boots so that the
strap does not rub. I have used the inserts one side of the boot if I am
working on a problem foot and one side is flatter than the other. I put
my
inserts where I want them and they don't move even taking the boots on and
off. If you have any question on the fit take a piece of cardboard or
stiff
paper and trace your horses feet then just slide them into the boot. You
can see what kind of space you will have on the sides. If you have any
other questions just give me a yell. Sandy at Neigh-Per-Say

i just measured my horse's feet to fit her w/ a pair of old macs. went to
their website and their calculator told me that since there is at least 3
size difference between the hoof width and lenght i should get the
inserts,
too.
has anyone had this problem? did you order the inserts? if you didn't have
you experienced any problems? i really don't want to deal w/ the
inserts...
thanks!
